ANTHONY GERRARD
THE FA are to investigate the incident in which Athletic defender Anthony Gerrard appeared to be struck by a Millwall fan.
The defender was embroiled in arguments with home supporters after the end of the visitors' 3-0 defeat at The Den when one supporter broke ranks and appeared to hit the centre-back in the face.
Gerrard (30) said on Twitter after the game a Millwall fan gave him "a dig", adding his "five-year-old hits harder".
The defender added: "These Millwall fans are comedy gold! They're very brave in the stands and on here. Behave yourselves."
A spokesperson for the FA said: “We are aware of the reports and we will be investigating.”
When asked about the incident, Athletic manager John Sheridan said: "One of them gave Anthony a punch, which is out of order. He is a tough lad and he can take it, but it should not be allowed to happen.
"It is not for me to deal with, but it should not happen to a player."
