Ferguson on Main loan deal

DONCASTER Rovers manager Darren Ferguson says he had nothing to do with the way Curtis Main’s loan agreement with Athletic has been structured.
No recall clause was inserted in the deal for the striker, who has scored three goals in his last three appearances for Athletic. Main was given the option to go back to his home club but chose to stay and has helped Athletic to turn an 11-point deficit into a nine-point advantage over third-bottom Rovers.
“It’s something I had no influence on, to be honest, the way the deal was done,” Ferguson said. “It was done in a way that all three parties had to agree to it.
“When he first went out on loan it was the right thing to do because he needed games. It’s just worked out that the boy wanted to stay there, so it’s an unfortunate situation.
“But I’m not going to sit here and blame Curtis Main for us not winning in however many games.
“It hasn’t helped the problem, but it hasn’t created the problem, put it that way.”
Athletic manager John Sheridan is delighted with Main's contribution, including vital strikes in recent wins over Swindon and Walsall.
