NOTHING less than perfection is the goal for Athletic as the side hunts down three points to continue a run of home victories.
Victory over Chesterfield last week handed John Sheridan’s side a boost in the bid to escape the bottom four. Swindon arrive in Oldham on the back of five games without a win. Manager Lee Williams has seen his club grind to a halt after Easter hammerings against Wigan and Scunthorpe.
The slide stalled against Fleetwood, but as far as Sheridan is concerned, both tonight’s game and Walsall’s visit on Saturday are winnable — and victories are what he is expecting.
“These two home games are massive,” Sheridan said. “I watched Walsall on Saturday (they lost 2-0 at Sheffield United). Let them dictate and play the way they want to and they can hurt you. But I expect to beat every team we play at home. That’s the way I go into the games. Maximum points and you’re right in there. Six points from those games and you can drag one or two other teams into it.”
Fleetwood play Peterborough at home tonight and if they don’t win, an Athletic victory will see them climb out of the drop zone. Athletic’s recent record against Swindon suggests a good result is on the cards. In the last nine meetings Athletic have won six and lost one.
