WHISTLED WIDE: Matt Palmer (centre) lets fly against Chesterfield and narrowly fails to hit the target.
MATT Palmer has stormed into a joint lead as the race for the 2015-16 Chronicle Star Man title hots up.
The on-loan Burton midfielder has been among manager John Sheridan's most astute signings, adding energy and neat passing in Athletic's engine room.
Palmer's most recent nomination was for his display in the home victory over Blackpool, in which his well-taken goal proved the difference between two sides battling against relegation.
The 22-year-old has so far made 12 appearances for Athletic and has been nominated as Star Man four times.
His other man of the match efforts were in his debut against Bury, in the 0-0 draw at Wigan and the victory over Gillingham.
Mike Jones, who won the 2014-15 prize and a charity cheque for £600 is also on four nominations for the season, as is Athletic's captain Liam Kelly. Only one down are Lee Croft and Cameron Dummigan.
In total, 23 different players have received nominations this season for an award provided by sponsors Indish Bar, Restaurant and Grill.
