No-one can stop brilliant Brewers

BURTON’S promotion juggernaut shows no sign of slowing down.

The end goal of a terrific promotion to the Championship is in sight for a club who only seven years ago were non-league. To even get to their stage in this amazing season — one containing 23 wins, at an average of two points per game — the Brewers have had to contend with the mid-season loss of manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to QPR and the subsequent departure of star winger Nasser El Khayati, who moved to Loftus Road in a £350,000 deal.

New boss Nigel Clough has come in and simply carried on the good work

And Burton provided the perfect birthday present at the weekend, marking Clough’s 50th with a thumping 4-0 win at Port Vale - only the Valiants’ second home loss of the season.

Burton striker Stuart Beavon stands out as the unheralded leader of the forward line. He has netted only seven times in 36 appearances — no Albion player is yet in double figures, remarkably — but the

ex-Wycombe and Preston striker’s all-round instincts as the lone front man are invaluable for Clough.

Back-to-back wins have arrested a minor wobble from Burton, in which they only won one in five. They are six points clear at the top of the division.
