SCUNTHORPE are back on an even keel after falling precariously close to the Sky Bet League One drop zone - a situation that cost Oldham-born boss Mark Robins his job five weeks ago.
Iron fans were looking anxiously over their shoulders at the bottom four places as the business end of the campaign approached, but under the temporary stewardship of Nick Daws and Andy Dawson, fortunes have soared.
Since Robins’ sacking in mid-January, the Iron have won four matches and lost one. Despite their last weekend defeat by Fleetwood Town, Daws was confirmed as Scunthorpe's new permanent boss on Monday. He has since spoken of how proud he has been to have taken the club forward – and into a comfortable mid-table position – since taking over.
“I’m really pleased the chairman feels Andy and me deserved the job full-time,” said Daws. “I’m pleased for Andy because I feel we have worked really hard. It’s a nice moment and we’re just looking forward to drawing a line under everything going on at the moment and focusing on the Oldham game on Saturday.”
Two in-form sides will go head to head on Saturday at Glanford Park. Athletic are undefeated in five games and are closing in on the League One safety line. An intriguing game is in prospect.
