AARON Holloway has boosted Athletic manager John Sheridan’s striker options by signing a deal that runs up to the end of the season.

The Cardiff-born player (23) has turned out 29 times for the Chairboys this season in Sky Bet League Two and scored four goals.

A stocky, tall figure, the former Bristol City academy player appears to fit the bill as the imposing target man John Sheridan has been seeking.

Holloway has signed on an emergency loan basis. He will wear the number 10 shirt and goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s game at Wigan.

Sheridan also hopes to complete a further signing in time for the game at Blackpool on Tuesday.

Sheridan confirmed his remaining loan target is a player who currently operates in League One.

“I am very confident I will get both,” Sheridan said, referring to Holloway and his other target. “They are two players I believe will benefit and score goals for us and I can get something out of each of them.

“I said I was 95 per cent sure we would get them last week and I am probably 97 per cent now.

“The three per cent is always the little doubt, but I hope to have one by the weekend and another by Monday.”

Defender Brian Wilson (groin) is close to a return to action, but there is a doubt over Dominic Poleon, who suffered a leg injury in his last run-out at Shrewsbury.

Meanwhile, Athletic’s relegation rivals Fleetwood have signed former Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi on a deal until the end of the season.

The 34–year–old has been without a club since his contract with Bolton came to an end last month.
