Peter Shirtliff: admired by boss
ATHLETIC manager John Sheridan has been impressed by the work behind the scenes of his new right-hand man Peter Shirtliff.
The 54 year old was present at the Shrewsbury game for the first time as an Athletic man two weeks ago - and his side kept a clean sheet.
A repeat show at Wigan on Saturday will be difficult: the other Latics have scored 12 goals in their last four home games. But as he battles against the drop, Sheridan is glad to have the benefit of his former Sheffield Wednesday colleague.
“He was an excellent defender, so sees certain things from that perspective more than me, a former midfielder,” Sheridan said.
“He’s not frightened of saying what he feels needs to be said, but he is also approachable. He knows the game inside out and it’s great to have someone like that alongside you. He will be good for the players and he is really keen to do well here.”
