Corney in signings pledge

SIMON Corney says he will “give it a good go” when it comes to bringing in player targets identified by John Sheridan.

Speaking exclusively to the club’s subscription-only service before jetting back to the United States, club chairman Corney (right) stated his belief that up to four new men are needed by Athletic.

And he is confident that the third manager of the season so far can right the wrongs of a poor campaign.

“Wherever John has gone, he has done very well,” Corney said. “We are in a scrap and we know that and it was time to make a change.

“We have the right man to come in here, make a difference, get the crowd going and players going and hopefully keep us here (League One).

“There has always been scope for signings. We have demonstrated that year on year.

“John has got a few targets in mind and it won’t be easy to bring them all in, but we will give it a good go.

“We know we need three or four players, at least, and I feel we still have the basis of a decent squad. Add those players to the ones John wants to bring in and we will be fine.”

As for the subject of who will assist Sheridan, no new man will be brought in before the weekend.

“John has identified one or two people,” Corney added. “It’s a case of whether we can get them out of their clubs.”
