ATHLETIC’S Christmas won’t be ruled by a useful point at Coventry — and it’s vital that the double bill to come doesn’t make the team look like turkeys.

A last-gasp Danny Philliskirk goal helped David Dunn’s side pick up a draw at the Ricoh Arena, halting a run of four losses. Now Dunn wants to get on a winning trail - starting in Blackpool on Boxing Day.

Two days later the final home match of the year against Doncaster will be followed by Dunn getting stuck into squad matters as the transfer window reopens.

“Coventry will be a terrific point for us if we can go and get a couple of wins,” he said. “If we can do that it will have been a very good Christmas for us.

“But we have done nothing yet. There is a lot of work to do with the squad. January is a big month and we can try to shape it in the way we want it.

“The draw at Coventry stops the rot and that’s what we wanted to do. At times, I thought we played some really good stuff. Out of possession, the players worked their socks off. The send-off from our fans at the end shows that they saw that.”

Dunn will hope his side can keep things tight at the back for the games against Blackpool and Doncaster.
