LEE Croft has returned to training and could play a part on Saturday.
ATHLETIC manager David Dunn has several selection posers as he plots to lift the club out of the bottom four.
Millwall are the opponents at SportsDirect.com Park on Saturday and the visitors will be confident they can deepen Athletic’s woe at the bottom of the table and keep themselvesd on the pace with the play-off challengers.
Though Dunn’s side is on a run of four losses, the manager proclaimed himself pleased with the effort of his players in a close-fought FA Cup defeat at Sheffield United last week.
This Saturday he welcomes back a handful of players to significantly strengthen his hand.
Right back Cameron Dummigan is almost certain to play, should he be passed fit. The Burnley prospect was signed on a third month’s loan before the Blades game simply to get the deal done.
His presence in the side would leave Dunn picking two out of three centre-backs from James Wilson, Timothee Dieng and Brian Wilson.
In midfield three men could step back in: Richie Wellens (though he hasn’t started in a game for six weeks), Jay Fulton and winger Lee Croft. The first two are likely to join the subs’ bench, while Croft hopes to be used after returning to full training after recovery from a month-old ankle injury
Up front Michael Higdon returns to the mix. With five goals to his name for Athletic in 13 appearances, he is competing with Jake Cassidy for a place as the line-leading striker.
With two home matches left in 2015, Athletic currently has the joint-lowest number of home wins in the Football League - five in the entire calendar year, a record only matched by Leeds, QPR and Newport.
