MANSFIELD Town stands between Athletic and a place in round two of this season's FA Cup, in a fixture that will evoke memories of a trip to Anfield two seasons ago.
The first round draw last night handed David Dunn's side an away date with the Stags, currently fifth in league two with four wins from six outings.
With home advantage, Stags boss Adam Murray will fancy his chances of causing an upset on November 7.
In 2013-14, Athletic had to play a replay with Mansfield after a 1-1 home draw in round two, winning the return tie 4-1.
On the scoresheet that day were Danny Philliskirk, Jonson Clarke-Harris, Matteo Lanzoni and Adam Rooney, after Ross Dyer had put the home side into a half-time lead.
To get to that stage, Lee Johnson's side had to go through two fixtures against Wolves – the second was won 2-1 at Molineux, after a 1-1 home draw – and the defeat of the then newly-promoted League Two side denied the Stags a trip to face Liverpool.
In last season's FA Cup, Athletic saw off Leyton Orient 1-0 only to suffer defeat by the same scoreline at the hands of Doncaster in round two.
The season before the last meeting with Mansfield brought with it the run to a round five replay at Goodison Park, after following up a victory at Nottingham Forest with a memorable 3-2 home win over Liverpool and a 2-2 draw with Everton.
THE draw for the first round of the FA Cup is: Burton Albion v Peterborough; Port Vale v Maidenhead; Barnet v Blackpool; Bristol Rovers v Chesham United; Cambridge Utd v Basingstoke; Mansfield v
ATHLETIC; Altrincham v Barnsley; Crewe Alexandra v Eastleigh; Northwich Victoria or Chorley v Boreham Wood; Coventry v Northampton; Brackley v Newport County; Grimsby v St Albans City; Hartlepool United v Havant and Waterlooville or Cheltenham Town; Salford City v Notts County; Dover v Stourbridge; Stevenage v Gillingham; Millwall v AFC Fylde; Aldershot v Bradford; Walsall v Fleetwood.
Bury v Wigan; Portsmouth v Macclesfield; Sheff Utd v Worcester City; Barwell or AFC Rushden and Diamonds v Grays or Welling; Halifax or Guiseley v Wycombe; Crawley v Luton; Doncaster v Stalybridge Celtic or North Ferriby United; Didcot v Exeter; Dagenham & Redbridge v Morecambe; Leyton Orient v Staines Town; Gainsborough Trinity v Shrewsbury; Maidstone v Yeovil; Braintree v Oxford United; Whitehawk v Tranmere or Lincoln; Accrington v York; Scunthorpe v Southend; AFC Wimbledon v Forest Green Rovers; Plymouth v Carlisle; FC United of Manchester v Chesterfield; Rochdale v Swindon; Wealdstone v Colchester.
Ties will take place on November 6-8.
