ROCHDALE 0, ATHLETIC 0

ATHLETIC preserved their unbeaten run away from home in League One after a derby stalemate at Spotland.

David Dunn's side were worthy of a point, but failed to test Josh Lillis in the home goal – while at the other end, David Cornell was forced into a stop in either half to preserve the clean sheet.

Keith Hill's men started the game marginally the stronger and should have gone ahead after 17 minutes. Former Athletic forward Lewis Alesandra was guilty of a glaring miss, firing over from eight yards out from an Andy Cannon cross.

Brian Wilson miscued a header when left all alone in the penalty area from a deep Daniel Lafferty free-kick, while Jay Fulton's dangerous low cross evaded everyone as it passed through the six-yard box.

James Wilson flashed another header a foot wide from a cross by Mike Jones, who came off injured just before half-time.

Rochdale hit the post on 38 minutes when Ian Henderson's header from a corner was pushed out onto his left upright by David Cornelll.

The second half was a tight affair again, punctuated by a series of yellow cards for minor infringements.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing forced Cornell into a save with a shot from the left side of the area, but while this was fast and frenetic there was little quality at either end of the pitch in an attacking sense.
