DAVID Dunn hailed a victory that had been a long time coming after Danny Philliskirk scored a late winner at Swindon last night.

Nicky Ajose’s equaliser appeared to have secured a point for struggling Swindon in the 85th minute at the County Ground. But two minutes later, Philliskirk flicked home his fourth goal of the season to give Latics a 2-1 win and the first three-point result of Dunn’s seven-game managerial career.

With a derby at Rochdale approaching, Dunn hopes the result can inspire his side, which has climbed out of the relegation zone and up to 17th in the table, to push higher.

“I have banged the drum about Philliskirk since I’ve been in charge,” said Dunn. “He pops up at the right times and I know he is an attacking player, but he does a hell of a shift for us off the ball as well. He was outstanding here, as they all were.

“I don’t want to sound a bore, but we have a big game on Saturday now and let’s hope that catapults us to go on a bit of a run.

“I was delighted with the performance and as much as I was pleased defensively and with our shape all over the pitch, we played some great stuff as well — we really did,” added Dunn.

ATHLETIC still have tickets for the derby at Spotland on Saturday. Last season the club took 3,250 fans to Rochdale for a memorable 3-0 victory.

An all-ticket affair, this season the club has been allocated 3,503 tickets, the whole Wilbutts Lane stand. Tickets will not be available on the day of the game.
