Danny Philliskirk, pictured celebrating his goal against Sheffield United, has never been on the losing side against tonight’s opponents.
AN UNBLEMISHED record is at stake tonight but Danny Philliskirk has every confidence Athletic can come through the Swindon test unscathed.
He reckons a showing as vibrant as that in the first half against Sheffield United on Saturday will result in the Robins caving in.
Philliskirk was on the scoresheet with his third goal of the season against his former employers, stealing in at the far post to convert a Mike Jones corner. While the game ended 1-1, the 24-year-old, home-grown utility man doesn’t believe an elusive second victory of the season is far off.
“Touch wood, I have never experienced defeat against Swindon,” said Philliskirk, who operated on the right side of midfield against the Blades. They play an expressive style and split the two defenders to try to open up teams. They take risks.
“That’s good for us because if we press as we did against Sheffield, hopefully we can catch them off guard and score goals.”
Philliskirk is out of contract at the end of the season but hopes to be asked to stay: “I’m in the team for a reason, and will hopefully earn a new contract if I keep on doing all right,” he added.
