Dunn: Midfielder must be patient

BIDE your time and take your chance is the message to out-of-favour midfield man Carl Winchester.

Athletic manager David Dunn, who has not selected the reigning fans’ player of the season since his first game at Doncaster, says he believes in the talent of the 22-year-old full Northern Ireland international.

But he implied Winchester needs to step up his game to make a case for regular inclusion in the starting XI.

“I told Carl last week that he just has to be patient and when he gets that chance, to take it,” said Dunn. “He is a young lad, still, and someone I rate. I’m trying to get the best out of him and hopefully that will happen.”

Winchester may get his chance tomorrow, with loan Swansea midfield man Jay Fulton unavailable.

Also missing on international duty are Cameron Dummigan (Northern Ireland under-21s) and Simonas Stankevicius (Lithuania under-21s).

Jake Cassidy is back running again and ahead of schedule in his recovery from ankle injury in mid-August. Joel Coleman could return in place of David Cornell tomorrow, with Timothee Dieng in line to step in for Dummigan.
