Poleon happy to let his feet do the talking

IT’S THERE: Dominic Poleon turns away to celebrate after equalising against Wigan.
DOMINIC Poleon is hoping his goalscoring heroics in Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Wigan will earn him another start at Port Vale tonight.
Poleon was dropped in favour of new loan capture Michael Higdon at the weekend - but when he replaced Liam Kelly after an hour he helped to turn the game round.
The former Leeds hit man bagged Athletic a well-deserved point with his first goal of the season, and generally created havoc as Wigan were forced on to the back foot.
Athletic boss David Dunn will have the final say on whether Poleon is rewarded at Vale Park tonight, of course; Poleon himself is patiently keeping his fingers crossed.
“You’ve just got to try to do whatever you can when you come off the bench,” said Poleon. “You have to try to affect the game as best you can, and of course in my position, try to score.
“Of course I did that, which was nice, though I should have had another really. Sometimes you just have to let your feet do the talking and hope the manager can see the effort.
“Once you’re in the team, it’s then about doing your best. Every player wants to play every game, and certainly I do. It doesn’t matter if you agree with the reason for being dropped or not, it’s never a positive, so you just have to try to make the best impact you can.”
Dunn has chosen a lone strikerin his first two games in charge. Poleon started at Doncaster while Higdon got the nod against Wigan. Poleon feels the two of them could make a potent partnership.
He added: “Certainly when you look at how Michael played on Saturday and how things have gone in training, I think we could complement one another. Maybe that’s something that will be put together in the future. He’s a big target man and playing with someone like him really helps my game.
“We’ll just have to see how things develop and what the gaffer decides.”
