Higdon has point to prove — boss

ATHLETIC boss David Dunn is hoping new loan striker Michael Higdon can show his parent club Sheffield United exactly what they’ve been missing.

Higdon (32) boasts a terrific record in front of goal from his time in Scotland with Falkirk, St Mirren and Motherwell, and then following a prolific year in Holland with NEC Nijmegen.

But he has been frozen out of the first-team at Bramall Lane lately, so Dunn was able to grab him on a three-month emergency loan deal.

Dunn, who wouldn’t commit to revealing whether Higdon would be thrown straight in at the start against Wigan tomorrow, said: “I think Michael is a great signing for us. He trained for the first time with us on Thursday and you can see the quality he brings.”

“We have missed that presence up top, certainly while Jake Cassidy has been out. A few people had spoken to Michael and his agent, but when I made it clear to him what I wanted he was keen to come here. “He’s got a point to prove, and I’ll always want to sign players like that.”
