You wouldn’t get Taylor’s hair for £250,000 — manager
THE PRICE is NOT right for Chris Taylor, says his manager Paul Dickov.
Scunthorpe United this week made a tentative inquiry regarding the winger’s availability — but were given short shrift when a transfer figure of £250,000 was put forward.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Carlisle, Dickov joked that such an amount would not secure you the Oldham-born player’s recently re-grown hair.
And though various scouts are also sniffing around a number of his other top performers, Dickov assured fans that nobody would be leaving Boundary Park on the cheap.
“Chris is a player we don’t want want to leave as we believe he is one of our better players,” Dickov said.
“We believe he can play at a higher level — but with us.
“He is an Oldham lad and he is happy here. By his own admission, he said he is enjoying his football more than he ever has.
“For someone to come in and take our player, one it has to be at the right price and two, a very good price at that.
“You wouldn’t buy his ginger hair for that (£250,000).
“We know people are watching our players. We have a good young team who have come a long way this season.
“You look at the scout list before we play and there are 20 or 30 clubs represented at every game.
“We know they are interested, but one thing we won’t do is let players go for a cheap price.
“It has to be the right price. There is a lot of media speculation at the minute about people trying to nick players and put in derogatory bids.
“I am not saying that has happened with Scunthorpe, but if any player is going to leave here then they have to put up the money and be fair to us.”
As suggested in yesterday’s Chronicle, Dickov has secured the signing of Leeds United winger Aidan White on a loan contract running to the end of the season.
The left-foot player could soon be joined by another speed demon Reuben Reid, with interest in the West Brom striker confirmed by Dickov.
“We have an interest in Reuben and we are trying to sort out a few things,” he said.
“Whether that can be done or not, we don’t know.
“Reuben was the next big thing a couple of years ago. West Brom signed him for money and he went there and did reasonably well for them last season.
“They bought his potential and he was never going to go straight into their team.
“We went to watch Walsall (where he was on loan) two or three times earlier this season and he did ever so well.
“He is a threat, he has raw pace and he scores goals.
“He fits the bill for us. We want him to get his career back on track.”
