LEWIS Alessandra’s return to action tonight provides a big boost for Athletic.
The tricky forward is back in Lee Duxbury’s reserves squad which faces a tough test at Bolton Wanderers in a Manchester Senior Cup tie.
It is the first time that the 21-year-old has been involved in a game situation after he suffered an ankle injury in training three weeks ago, which had initially appeared to be serious.
Prior to his injury, manager Paul Dickov was pleased with the way Alessandra (pictured, right) was working behind the scenes and felt he was recapturing the form which had made him a first choice earlier in the campaign.
“We felt Lewi was getting back to where he was,” said Dickov.
“He did a bit of running on Friday and a fitness session yesterday morning before joining in with the rest of the squad.
“We will give him 45 minutes tonight and see how he does.
“He has missed a few weeks now, but if he comes through he could be involved with the first team this weekend.”
Also among the squad for tonight’s match, which takes place at Leyland (7pm kick-off), are three triallists.
Yassin Moutaouakil and Andre Blackman arrived at the club last week, but the scheduled reserve clash against Bury was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
“Yassin and Andre came in last Monday in preparation for the game,” Dickov added.
“It was then called off, so this will give us a good chance to take a look at them.”
