ATHLETIC fans are being encouraged to walk to Boundary Park as part of a new keep-fit venture.

The ‘Walk Bus’ initiative will kick off for the home game against Huddersfield on Sunday, November 1.

It will be a 1.7mile social health walk from Ancora Italian Restaurant, Broadway, to Boundary Park and then returning on foot after the match.

The walkers will leave at 1pm and will be led by staff from Oldham Community Health Services and Oldham Athletic Community Trust. Oldham Community Leisure Ltd are also participants.

Supporters who take part in the registered walks will receive a free programme - one per family - as well as discounted family match tickets.

These will be priced at £20 for one adult and up to two children and £40 for two adults and up to four children.

If fans attend five health walks, then on the sixth they will not only receive their free programme but also free entry to the match.

As an added incentive, the person who takes part in most health walks over the course of the season will receive a signed match ball or shirt.

Athletic chief executive Alan Hardy said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for fans to make healthy lifestyle changes while supporting us.

“We would like as many people as possible to come down and join the Walk Bus on November 1 when Chaddy The Owl will be on the first one.”
