KELVIN LOMAX was detained in Royal Oldham Hospital overnight after being concussed in Athletic’s home game against Yeovil on Saturday.

The right-back was substituted at half-time after sustaining a blow to the head during the opening period and is set to miss Saturday’s trip to Charlton Athletic as a result.

“Kelvin was feeling dizzy at half-time so the doctor sent him to hospital for a check-up,” explained Athletic manager Dave Penney.

Medics decided to keep Lomax in hospital overnight, but he was discharged yesterday.

Lomax won’t be available for the visit to Charlton because the laws of the game state a player sustaining a head injury must miss his team’s next match.

Lomax was one of a number of injuries sustained in the goalless draw at Boundary Park.

Midfield man Dean Furman came off early in the second half after he received a painful knock on his ankle.

Furman left the ground with his ankle strapped, as did left-back Alan Sheehan, who managed to complete the 90 minutes despite also receiving a painful kick.

Chris Taylor was substituted early in the second half after he complained at the break of feeling unwell.

“We said we would give him 10 minutes, but he looked a little lethargic and tired which is why we brought him off,” explained Penney.

The Athletic manager has a full week to prepare for this weekend’s visit to Charlton.

“We picked up a few knocks but, happily, none seem to be serious worries,” declared Penney, who might even have on-loan striker Nick Blackman back for the game at The Valley.

Blackman, who has missed the last four matches through a foot injury, has resumed training. He had returned briefly to parent-club Blackburn Rovers for their medical staff to assess the injury.

Alan Sheehan has extended his loan at Boundary Park for a second month.

But Leeds United have insisted on a 24-hour recall clause in the event of the left-back being needed at Elland Road.
