HOT STREAK: Wigan's Nick Powell has already got three goals for the season
WIGAN are taking nothing for granted when they rock up for the derby with Athletic while looking to maintain a 100-per-cent start to the season.
Paul Cook's side underlined their strength by hammering Bury 4-1 ahead of what is a third straight all-Lancashire battle for the club relegated from the Sky Bet Championship last term.
Nick Powell scored twice, one from the penalty spot, as the hosts recovered from being pegged back by an Alex Bruce equaliser in the first half at the DW Stadium.
FOULED
Michael Jacobs had given Wigan an early lead from a Powell cross and after the interval, the ex-Crewe and Manchester United player nodded in a cross before converting from the spot after Ivan Toney had been fouled.
Lee Evans added a fourth in added time to leave former Portsmouth and Chesterfield manager Cook happy but eager to keep a lid on expectations.
"Bury are a very good side and in the early exchanges, it was very much end to end," said Cook of Sunday's game, which arrived three days after Bury had lost 1-0 at home to Sunderland in a televised Carabao Cup first round tie.
"The first half was nip-and-tuck all the way but after that, we took control.
"We played well, scored a couple of good goals which came at the right time and it was one of those enjoyable days for us.
"We now look forward to the Oldham game.
"We are pleased, of course - but there is so much hard work still to come.
"We will have bad days, make no bones about it.
"At Oldham, it will be a really tough game for us - and that's football.
"You keep your habits going and we will keep working hard with the lads."
Wigan opened up their season with a 1-0 win at MK Dons, where Powell was again the scorer, before defeating Blackpool 2-1 at home in the Carabao Cup.
