SPIREITES THREAT: former Athletic target Ched Evans
FOUR in and four out is the order of the month for relegation-threatened Chesterfield, with recently installed manager Gary Caldwell pronouncing himself happy with the business conducted.
Gboly Ariyibi's switch to Nottingham Forest late on deadline day meant the winger became the last of a quartet also including Liam O'Neil (Cambridge United), Garry Liddle (Carlisle) and Jay O'Shea (Sheffield United on loan) to leave the Proact Stadium.
POTENTIAL
In their place, Caldwell has gone down the route of youthful potential.
Manchester City's former Lens striker David Faupala (19) is in on loan, having earlier this season spent time with NAC Breda in the Netherlands.
Faupala has made one first-team outing for City, scoring in a 5-1 defeat at Chelsea in last season's FA Cup fifth-round round tie.
There were three other loan moves, too. Preston midfielder Liam Grimshaw (21), Birmingham midfielder Reece Brown (20) - no relation to the former Athletic loan player of the same name - and QPR defender Osman Kakay (19) have all added to Caldwell's squad options ahead of Saturday's important home meeting with Athletic.
Grimshaw is a former Manchester United academy star who was transferred to Preston for an undisclosed fee a year ago and who has played seven times this season; Brown has played nine times for his Championship parent club this term; and Kakay was loaned to Livingston last season where he played 10 games.
"Having come to the club in mid-January it was always going to be late that we did our business," Caldwell told the Derbyshire Times.
"I'd rather do it earlier, but I didn't have that time. I'm delighted with the work we've done."
While suffering the embarrassment of a 5-0 home defeat at Wycombe of League Two in the second round of the FA Cup, the Spireites' home form hasn't been bad of late.
Chesterfield are unbeaten in their last five league meetings at the Proact Stadium, a sequence that includes a notable 1-0 victory over Bolton secured thanks to Liam O'Neil's goal.
Four straight losses in League One did for Danny Wilson, though, as he was sacked following a 2-0 defeat at Bradford on Saturday, January 7.
