JOHN Sheridan feels that there is work to be done with his side, after the 1-0 loss at Shrewsbury:

"It was a disappointing performance. There wasn't a lot between the teams and it was a very scrappy game with two teams near the bottom of the table.

"There was lots of endeavour, but sometimes you have to use your head rather than your feet, instead of running around and getting 15 miles under your belt.

"I've seen why the team haven't been scoring goals because we didn't hold the ball up, we didn't keep the ball well enough and we didn't disturb them. It was too easy.

"I couldn't see us losing the game. It was a very soft goal with people going for the same ball.

"Billy Mckay had the best chance to put us 1-0 up and if he scores there it's a completely different game but we didn't play well.

"We're very unbalanced at the moment. We don't have any left-footers in the squad and that's something I'm looking at and hopefully will sort out before the window closes.

'GOOD FOLLOWING'

"I'm always disappointed for the fans travelling.

"We had a good following and we just give enough to get them going.

"You can see we work hard enough. There is a good work ethic but I want one or two to be a bit cleverer when picking the right pass or trying something different.

"I've only been here a week so hopefully I can sort that out and build a team who can create more chances and score a few more goals."

SHREWSBURY manager Paul Hurst felt his side were worthy of the three points, but says safety is still a long way off:
"It was a big game but I'm not going to change what I said at the start to the players.

"We're not safe and Oldham aren't relegated. It's just nice to get that victory in a game where two teams were trying to win the game.

"I didn't think it was overly edgy, we started quite well. Oldham looked likely on the counter attack, particularly on our right side where we weren't organised from throws.

"In the end I thought we certainly edged the game and didn't look in too much trouble overall.

"I just don't want anyone to start taking things for granted. We need those fans behind us and hopefully we can keep delivering. The linesman wasn't sure who put the ball in the net, I think (on the disallowed goal). And then I don't know if they were questioning if it hit his hand."
