HISTORY suggests Athletic face a major battle to haul themselves out of relegation trouble.
In the past 10 completed League One seasons, only twice (Bristol City in 2013-14 and Yeovil in 2010-11) have clubs at the bottom of the table at Christmas avoided the drop to League Two.
CONTRAST
By contrast, Boxing day opponents Sheffield United are seeking to gain promotion to the Championship as a side tailor-made to compete by manager Chris Wilder.
"Sheffield United know this division inside out, when to play and when to play it longer," said Athletic's manager Stephen Robinson.
"With the resources available to them, they can go out and get the best players for this level.
"They create chances and are a real goal threat."
Athletic (probable, 4-5-1): Ripley; Dummigan, Clarke, Burgess, Dunne; Croft, Banks, Flynn, Green, Winchester; Mckay. Subs (from): Kettings, Wilson, Law, King, Reckord, Klok, McLaughlin, Osei, Jahraldo-Martin, Erwin.
