POINTING THE WAY: Athletic boss Stephen Robinson issues instructions
ATHLETIC won't be taking drastic, costly measures to try to lift home results to match those picked up on the road.
Despite not yet winning at SportsDirect.com Park in Sky Bet League One, boss Stephen Robinson's side have picked up two victories away from home and boast the sixth-best such record in the division.
Only four clubs - MK Dons, leaders Scunthorpe, second-placed Bradford and tomorrow's hosts Bolton - can beat the nine point collected in six outings on the road.
But only the Dons have a worse record than Athletic's three points from six outings at home.
Robinson stresses that his side have performed at times on their own ground, notably in the league game against Walsall in which they counted themselves unlucky not to win.
And he says special measures like staying overnight in a hotel and travelling to home matches by coach in order to recreate the feel of an away-day won't be employed for home fixtures - even if there was the cash available to shell out.
"I am not sure the chairman would allow us to do that even if we wanted to!" said Robinson, when asked if there was any chance of a stop-over ahead of upcoming fixtures at SportsDirect.com Park.
"It isn't a case of a curse or anything at all. We have simply had two bad performances at home against Swindon and MK Dons, which is really unfortunate for the fans who pay to come and watch us.
"But I do think some decent performances at home become forgotten.
"It's a case of firstly, we can't, and secondly, I don't see the need."
Athletic host Scunthorpe on Tuesday, October 18 (7.45pm kick-off).
Fans buying tickets for that game will then gain free entry to the Bristol Rovers home match on Saturday, October 22.
SUPPORTERS can pay on the day at Bolton tomorrow, but fans are still advised to buy tickets in advance from Athletic's ticket office. Advance sales stop today at 3pm.
Athletic have reported sales of over 1,300 tickets so far.
Prices are £26 adults, £18 over-65s and under-23s, £10 under-18s and £7 under-12s.
