Oldham match winner Ryan Flynn (R) gets a hug from his manager Stephen Robinson at the end of the League One game between Gillingham and Oldham Athletic at the KRBS Priestfield Stadium, Gillingham, on Sat Oct 8, 2016
ATHLETIC manager Stephen Robinson was delighted his side finally got their just deserts:
"It looked like it was going to be another frustrating day, but the lads dug in and showed superb character.
"We went 1-0 down from an individual mistake and Brian (Wilson) held his hands up, but he showed great character to get back in the game and he was superb.
"We deserved to win and had we have scored four of five goals I don't think anybody would have said it was an injustice.
"I think they only had a claim for a penalty and we had a claim on Freddie (Ladapo) as well, but we thoroughly deserved it.
"Freddie took his goal well and he came on and gave us a little bit of life.
"We've got options now and the strikers have started scoring goals so hopefully the chances we are creating, we deserve to be further up the table.
"Ryan Flynn deserved his winner and has been excellent the last three or four games. He's set his stall out now and he's been very good.
"He's getting an understanding with Paul Green and Ousmane Fane so I was delighted he got the winner."
Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh felt aggrieved at the officials rather than the overall result:
"I'm disappointed, upset and frustrated. I can't hide behind the fact that I think Oldham deserved to in the game.
I believe that both of the Oldham goals should have been disallowed.
"I think the first goal is a foul on Chris Herd, as the ball is nowhere near the Oldham player. Chris got a clear barge in the back.
"For the second one, there was a player obstructing Stuart Nelson from an offside position."
