Orchestras, String Groups and Keyboards
More than 200 children take part in string and keyboard groups at the Music Centre. Most of the groups usually appear in at least three public performances a year. The link below is a video of one such performance given by of the Oldham Youth Orchestra conducted by Gerard Booth.
For those students who are not undertaking string instrument tuition there is also the opportunity to join our Keyboard Orchestra.
Who is it for?
All schoolchildren are welcome to audition (groups are graded according to ability).
Most new members who play string instruments join the Elementary String Group or the Guitar Ensemble and progress to other groups as they develop.
Orchestras also require percussion players and many of these come from the “Repercussions” percussion ensemble.
