IT’S great to be back in the Chronicle this week, talking about such an exciting start to the new Premier League season.
Already Manchester City is looking really strong and has sent out a real message to title rivals, with two convincing victories so far.
City absolutely battered West Brom last Monday, and though the possession stats were understandably much more even for the Chelsea game, a 3-0 victory didn’t flatter the home team.
It’s looking very promising: City has plenty of top-class individuals in the squad and they seem to be gelling superbly as a team.
Everyone out on the pitch on Sunday looked hungry for success, and they all worked hard for each other. I’ve been at City more than 20 years now, but so far I think it’s been the best start to a season I’ve ever seen. The team is creating lots of chances and looks tight at the back.
It was terrific to see and hear the new south stand structure in all its glory on Sunday. I know Chelsea were in town so a sell-out was all but guaranteed, but seeing the ground full of 55,000 people was brilliant.
I was doing co-commentary for the website and at times I could hardly hear myself think. Having those extra bodies in the south stand lifted the atmosphere unbelievably.
So it’s back on the travels this weekend and a trip to an Everton side which has been a bit of a bogey team for City in recent years.
But given the way the lads are playing so far, I’ve no reason to see anything other than a good result at Goodison on Sunday.
