ROYTON starlet Jessica Fullalove was among a seven-strong squad of talented young swimmers who will compete at the Japan Open in Tokyo this weekend.
British Swimming is continuing a development project in the Far East aimed at enhancing medal prospects at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, and backstroke specialist Fullalove (18) has clearly been earmarked as a potential medal hope in the making.
British Swimming Head of Performance Pathway Tim Jones will lead the squad, together with coach Mat Trodden (University of Edinburgh), for the three-day event at the Tatsumi Pool.
“This is the second year in succession we have taken a squad of promising young athletes to this meet,” said Jones.
“It’s an excellent development opportunity for both coaches and athletes, and will provide them with valuable experience.”
The event runs from Friday to Sunday.
British squad –
Cameron Brodie (University of Stirling); Max Litchfield (City of Sheffield); Katie Matts (Stockport Metro): Chloe Tutton (City of Cardiff); Sarah Vasey (Derventio); Jess Fullalove (City of Manchester); Ellena Jones (Swim Swansea).
