Mangala is on a City mission

GIANT Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala is aiming to make the most of the remaining weeks of the season after a frustrating first campaign in England.

The French defender has struggled to find the consistency he would like and is desperate to show the City fans his best form.

With skipper Vincent Kompany still sidelined with injury, Mangala is aiming to take the opportunity to finish his first year on a high. Speaking ahead of Sunday’s tough trip to Tottenham, the 24-year-old said: “It’s true that I had a bit of start-stop season.

“But now I have the chance to play more because Vincent is injured. It is important I use the opportunity well and gain more experience. We have four important games still to play and we need to ensure we qualify for the Champions League and finish positively.”

Mangala is looking forward to the challenge of keeping 30-goal striker Harry Kane quiet for the afternoon.

“Kane has had a very good season,” added Mangala. “He is young and I think that for us it’s more challenging and exciting to play against a player who is in such a rich vein of form.

“It’s a test for us because he has scored a lot of goals against very good defences so it will be a busy afternoon, I’m sure. I think it will be a good game and I intend to win my battles to ensure we travel home with three points.”

If Chelsea beat Crystal Palace in Sunday’s early game, they will be confirmed Premier League champions
