CARS promised for the funeral of a teenager who was stabbed to death have been damaged in a machete attack.
Wayne Reading (38) was stabbed in the leg when he tackled two men who caused more than £10,000 worth of damage to his three cars and work van.
He offered the use of them as funeral vehicles to the family of Tommy Bilton (19) from Limeside, who died after an attack in Oldham on August 16.
Wayne, a painter and decorator, heard the vehicles being smashed up outside his home in Higher Fullwood, Middleton, in the early hours a week ago yesterday.
CCTV footage of the attack shows two people smashing up his Golf, BMW X5 and Mitsubishi Evo cars, as well as a Ford Transit.
“I chased and caught them at the top of the street,” he said. “They held a machete to my throat, cut my ear and stabbed me in the leg.
“My wife was terrified. There is over £10,000 worth of damage to the cars. The wing mirrors have been broken, windows smashed and panels dented.
Two men, aged 19 and 55, have been arrested in connection with the attack and bailed to today.
