MASKED men tried to blow up a cash machine in Shaw before hacking the front door of a bank with power tools.
People leaving a nearby pub dialled 999 after they spotted them attacking the Barclays branch in Market Street with a gas cylinder and a large circular saw. The thieves left a trail of damage before police arrived. It isn’t known if any cash was taken in the raid, in the early hours of Sunday.
A police spokesman said: “We were called around 2.46am. Three men wearing balaclavas attempted to blow up the cash machine before hacking at the door with what appears to be a circular saw. If the public have any information, we would be grateful to hear it.”
