Fun-filled ups and downs of It’s a Knockout

THERE was foam, sweat and cheers when It’s A Knockout returned to Oldham’s Alexandra Park at the weekend.

Teams tackled foam-filled obstacles, crawled under cargo nets, scaled bouncy climbing walls, threw themselves down giant slides and raced on tandem space hoppers yesterday in aid of The Christie cancer centre at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

The event was organised by the Salmon Fields-based Dr Joe Jaffe Hospital Support Charity, which raises money for the famous hospital.

Nine teams of all ages, shapes and sizes took part, with eight more competing today.

The 10-strong team from Screwfix wore tutus and wigs — which store manager Gail Bridge said was the idea of the male team members.

Many people taking part had family members and friends affected by cancer.

Keith Coulter from the Dr Joe Jaffe Hospital Support Charity said: “It’s gone really well and everyone has enjoyed it.”
