Musical memories live on

DEPARTING musicians at Oldham Music Centre have created a permanent record of their time with the youth brass band.

New CD “Tour de Force” features band members’ favourite tracks, pieces chosen by conductor Jonathan Leedale, requests from parents and significant tunes from the band’s history.

The disc will serve as a record of the band’s achievements, as well as providing a memento for the musicians now moving on to other projects.

The band was formed in 1984 and has taken part in many concerts and contests over the last three decades. Members compete in the Whit Friday band contests in Saddleworth every year and at the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in the highest section.

The band has also undertaken numerous foreign concert tours, most recently to New York in July last year.

Key tracks include “Goldcrest”, the band’s 2015 Whit Friday piece which saw them get one of their highest ever placings, the most requested track “Sweet Gingerbread Man” and “Saga of Tyrfing”, the set test piece in the Championship section of the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain 2015.
