Street market trial starts
Date published: 25 August 2015
A CONTROVERSIAL plan to move Shaw Market to the main shopping street will start its trial on Thursday.
Temporary stalls will be put up in front of shops in Market Street — between Rochdale Road and Farrow Street East — from 10am-4pm. Market Street will be closed to traffic during these times.
It is hoped the relocation will help reverse the decline in trade at the market and attract new customers.
During the trial — which runs until October 29 — the council will consult with traders, business owners and shoppers to see whether the new location should become the market’s permanent new home.
