CLOSURE order . . . on a First Choice Homes flat at Julian House, Henshaw Street
A ST Mary’s flat used as a “drugs takeaway” has been shut down and sealed off.
Oldham Council, First Choice Homes and Greater Manchester Police obtained a closure order for the Henshaw Street flat which was occupied by two of Oldham’s top-10 offenders and at which buyers would queue to be served.
The order, granted at Oldham Magistrates’ Court earlier this month, seals the flat for three months in which anyone attempting entry commits an offence.
Neighbouring residents said the tenants were persistent drug users and dealers. People queued outside at all hours.
Dave Smith, customer-first director at FCHO, said: “It has taken a tremendous amount of work but we are very pleased with the outcome. The area has undergone a transformation, with significant investment that has led to a renewed sense of pride in the area. We’d encourage all residents to report anti-social behaviour.”
Councillor Barbara Brownridge, Cabinet member for neighbourhoods, said: “This tough action sends a very clear message to those who illegally take and deal in drugs and cause such a terrible blight in their areas. Your behaviour will not be tolerated here in Oldham.”
