LOCAL rowers claimed first and second place in a national contest in Birmingham.
Oldham Dragons came top and Oldham Tigers were runners-up at the “Nowka Bais” championships - a national sport of Bangladesh, which features teams of 13 rowers. The two Oldham teams were joined by 16 other teams in knockout competitions.
Oldham Dragons manager Nanu Miah said: “We won the competition last year so we are delighted to have defended our title. It’s a great achievement to have won as we don’t get to practise very often. For Oldham to have taken first and second place is fantastic. We are hoping to bring the competition to Oldham next year and are looking at the possibility of having it at Dovestone Reservoir.”
