The Peterloo massacre plaque in central Manchester
OLDHAMERS who want to join the Peterloo memorial event in Manchester on Sunday can meet at the junction of Oldham Road and Great Ancoats Street at 11.45am.
From the Manchester meeting point, the group will walk to the Manchester Central Convention Centre led by the “Black Banner of Saddleworth”.
Visitors will recreate the scene from 1819 by wearing period dress and enjoying a simple picnic of bread and cheese. Actors, including Christopher Eccleston, Maxine Peake and Oldham’s John Henshaw, will read out the names of the 15 people who died, as well as other literature about the massacre.
