A CADET from Fitton Hill made his mark in his native Poland at the 20th international meeting of Youth Fire Brigades.
Lukasz Krause — with cadets from Ramsbottom and Farnworth — took part in an Olympic-style event over six days in the Polish city of Opole, where cadets from across Europe and as far as Japan competed in fire and rescue themed events.
Lukasz (18) attended an opening ceremony and spent the next two days practising for the competition in advance of a team obstacle race and 400m relay.
The cadets raised an impressive £10,000 with various fund-raising events. Lukasz, who is currently studying public services at Ashton Sixth Form College, joined Hollins fire cadets in 2012 and completed the two-year programme last year as the unit’s watch manager. He was accepted to bcome a volunteer fire cadet instructor at the Hollins unit, but is also hopeful of becoming a full-time firefighter.
Lukasz lived in Poland until 2007. Sarah Swindells, GMFRS youth engagement co-ordinator for Bury, Oldham and Rochdale, said: “Lukasz has always been very keen to learn all about the fire and rescue service and is always first to help. He will make a great fire cadet instructor.”
