A survey shows 96 per cent of Oldham people are in favour of having smoke-free events and areas
The results back the launch of a new “Smoke-Free Summer” campaign, which includes smoking-free family events to reduce children’s exposure to smoking.
The campaign, across Greater Manchester, also aims to reduce litter and limit the chance of young children picking up and tasting cigarette butts.
The first event in Oldham will be Dr Kershaw’s Hospice duck race and fun day at Chadderton Hall Park on August 22.
The campaign is being organised by local social enterprise Tobacco Free Futures, which has worked with local authorities and event organisers across Greater Manchester.
Councillor Jean Stretton, cabinet member for health, said: “0The council is committed to tackling the harm caused by tobacco, especially to children, and want to see more healthy, smoke-free family-friendly events in the borough.”
