UPLIFTING DONATION: Anne Watson (centre), volunteer deputy manager of Oxfam, is delighted with the generous donation. With her are Vicky Lees (l) and Marjorie Bamforth from Oldham Inner Wheel.
African women will be getting plenty of support from the latest gesture by members of Oldham Inner Wheel.
Shoppers stopped in their tracks when a bundle of 412 unwanted bras was dropped off outside the Oxfam shop on Yorkshire Street!
The underwear will be shipped to a market in Senegal, West Africa, to be sold to local market traders. The profits will be invested in Oxfam’s work in fighting poverty.
Vicky Lees, the Inner Wheel Club’s international service officer, said: “I was overwhelmed with the number of bras that kept coming in. Women in Senegal are desperate for bras. They get cheap ones from China but they don’t give any support — they like the British brands.”
