EXCITING times ahead . . . Anil Juneja, MD at TJ Hughes
RETAILER TJ Hughes has given more details about its new department store and cafe opening in Oldham this autumn.
The discount chain is returning to its former site at Spindles Town Square, opposite the Old Town Hall development, with a new-look 35,000 sq ft store and 50 new full and part-time jobs. The former Oldham store closed in 2011 with the loss of 80 jobs.
The reopening and upgrade of the Spindles outlet is being seen as a vote of confidence in the wider regeneration of Oldham.
The firm said Oldham shoppers will find a cleaner, more modern store and product range, with more big-name electrical, fashion and beauty brands. There will also be a cafe.
Anil Juneja, the retail chain’s managing director, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be reopening in Oldham. This is the latest in a large-scale expansion programme. Our ultimate aim is to return to many of the 55 towns where we previously had stores. It’s all about getting the right site - and we know we’ve got that in Oldham.”
Mike Flanagan, manager of the Spindles Town Square shopping centre, said: “The return of TJ Hughes will make a huge difference to the whole town centre.
