OLDHAM’S youth mayor Saskia Edwards will perform at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall tomorrow.
Former Hulme student Saskia is among members of the Halle Youth Choir who will take part in a programme of works by Debussy, Vaughan Williams and Elgar.
Saskia is one of two Oldham Youth Council members who recently returned from a European Union-funded event in Germany, looking at how to get more young people involved in politics.
She auditioned for the Halle Youth Choir two years ago and will also perform with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Proms Youth Choir at the Royal Albert Hall in September.
The 18 year old is taking a year out to concentrate on her mayoral role before university.
Meanwhile Blue Coat School pupil Richard Blythe (16) has been appointed principal percussionist with the National Youth Brass Band, and a percussion tutor for the National Children’s Brass Band.
Richard is a member of Marsden Silver Prize Band and the National Youth Guitar Ensemble. He attended the Junior Royal Northern College.
