Society hits the high notes

SADDLEWORTH Musical Society has collected a trio of prestigious trophies for its production of comic opera “Die Fledermaus”.
The society had five nominations at the Greater Manchester Drama Federation’s annual awards, including Best Actress for Mirriam Lawton and Best Producer-Director for Anita Stuttard.
The three wins went to Alison Starrs (Best Actress in a Supporting Role), Harry Butterworth (Best Musical Director) and Pat Butterworth and the stage crew (Best Artistic Design).
The society was up against 13 other amateur musical societies from across Greater Manchester.
Rehearsals are currently underway for the group’s next production, “HMS Pinafore”, at Saddleworth School in late October.
