THE grand parade winds its way through the town centre.
RAINBOWS adorned the town centre as Oldhamers gathered in the sunshine to celebrate this year’s Pride event.
The event, which celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community kicked off with a spectacular parade through the town centre to Gallery Oldham.
Fi Fi the giant pink owl and Greater Manchester Police’s “Police with Pride” car led the parade alongside the North-West Ambulance Service.
The Mayor, Councillor Ateeque Ur-Rehman, led the first part of the parade from the town centre and was excited to be part of the festivities: “I’m delighted to support the parade. This is a fitting tribute to the rich diversity we celebrate.
An afternoon of fun outside Gallery Oldham featured live entertainment from tribute acts, including Lady Gaga and Gizelle. Local artists and the Gay Gordons also entertained
An official Pride party was held at the George Tavern that evening.
Council leader Jim McMahon said: “Oldham Pride has grown into one of the biggest dates on the town centre calendar. It continues to go from strength to strength.”
