Quasim Hussain: hello sailor!
A BRAVE cancer survivor has been on the voyage of a lifetime with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.
Quasim Hussain (18) from Oldham, recently took part in the four-day sailing trip with 14 other young people in recovery on a trust yachts on the Firth of Clyde. It was the first sailing experience for the teenager, who ended treatment for Hodgkins lymphoma at The Christie in December.
‘The social aspect of the trip has been really great,” he said. “Everyone really understood and related to one another. Mixing with people has helped me come to terms with my illness and I have gained confidence.”
The trips, on board 48ft cruising yachts, provide a chance for young people to test themselves. The fleet made stopovers at several places across the four days.
Dame Ellen, who tries to spend a day on as many trips as possible, said: “Everything we do is about building confidence, self-esteem and having fun together.”
