Don’t pull plug on electric rail, pleads MP
Date published: 23 July 2015
OLDHAM East and Saddleworth MP Debbie Abrahams is backing a new “Don’t Pull the Plug” campaign calling on the Government to reinstate plans to electrify the TransPennine route.
The Labour MP said: “Just seven weeks after the election, the Government announced it was shelving these vital upgrades - bad for local rail passengers and bad for the local and regional economy.
“It’s right that we demand a real commitment from the Government that it will deliver these projects within a clear and published timetable.
“I’m asking people to sign a petition to add pressure to the Government to live up to its promises.”
The petition is at: www.labour.org.uk/dont-pull-the-plug.
