FUTURE Royton and Crompton students are spending some of their holidays... back in school!
Fun-filled learning is the focus of a 10-day event during which pupils can enjoy sports, dance, design and biscuit-baking taster sessions. The summer camp aims to provide a smooth transition for year six pupils, who will start at the school in September.
Now in its third year, more than 230 students from 40 primary schools are enjoying the activities on offer.
Claire Doran, modern foreign languages teacher and primary links co-ordinator, said: “It’s great because the year six students have the run of the school.”
Previous summer camps have shown pupils who attended made better progress and settled in more quickly when they started school.
Assistant head Sally Ogden said: “They haven’t got that scary first day to deal with as they’ve been able to get used to the building and the teachers. And if you are the only pupil from your primary school starting at Royton and Crompton, it really is invaluable.”
